Lingsartemple

The temple of Lingsar
Just a few kilometres north of Narmada and easily reached by berno from there, Pura Lingsar (daily 7am-6pm; admission by donation) was built around 1714 and then rebuilt in 1874. The complex is large, with a couple of lily ponds in the outer courtyards, and is a favourite local fishing spot in the evenings. Interestingly, this temple is a focus of worship for the Hindu religion and a place of worship for followers of Island including the Wetu Telu adherents on the island. The furthest north, and highest, courtyard is the Hindu one guarded by fierce monsters at the candi bentar, while the Wetu Telu area has a pond overlooked by a vivid statue of Wisnu, home to some well-fed eels which emerge for hard-boiled eggs brought by devotees. The pujawali festival is also celebrated here in November or December, and followed by a mock battle between Hindus and Muslims who throw ketupat (rice wrapped in leaves) at each other. One kilometre west of the turning to the temple on the back road from Narmada to Cakranegara is Puri Lingsar Homestay, a small row of bungalows in a pretty garden; if s a rural spot and not many tourists stay here.
