Cakranegara This city is most interesting of Lombok's larger places. Nearly all places of interest regard to architecture of the island has this city to offer, lie within a range of 15 kilometres of the city. Up to the beginning of this century it was the royal capital of lombok and the city is still the most important market place of the island. The trade takes mainly place in the always busy Arab district, the spot for buying decorate sarongs. The Balineze district in the north of the city count several beautiful houses built in typical Bali-Lombok style. Places of interest The Pura Meru the Pura Meru is the head temple of the Hindus of the island. The temple is built in 1720, for the different unite of Hindu fracties on the island. General ham, the general of the Dutch army in the war against the Balineze kings of lombok in 1894, found here the death with a large part of its troups. Although he had been warned for a possible ambush, he decided to spend the night on the inner yard of the temple. In the middle of in the night the camp was attack from the temple walls by hundreds of balinezen, where Generaal Harm was deadly harmed. The troups could still transport him to Ampenan, where he died on 26 augusts 1894. He lies bury in Karangjangkong. The royal palace behind the garden is of a surprising simplicity . The surroundings of Cakranegara Runkang/Sayang-Sayang In this village, 1 km at north of Cakranegara, there made boxes of palm leaves. Jangkuk This village is famous for its woodcraft. |
